In this article I will be teaching you exactly how to play Texas Hold'em, the game that is taking the world by storm, I will also be giving some sneaky tips to make sure you stand the best chance of winning!
All the people that I have taught how to play Texas Hold'em poker over the years have first started off being intimidated by the game. This seems to be very common and is entirely unfounded, the game is simple to learn and follows a rigid set of rules so you do not get confused by changes like in some games. Anyone can learn how to play Texas Hold'em poker, it is easy for a beginner to learn but complex enough to keep a master learning for his or her entire lifetime!
Ok, onto a simplified version of how to play Texas Hold'em Poker: The first step is to get a shuffled deck of 52 cards and deal two cards to each player face down, starting with the person to the left of you. The person to the left of the dealer is the 'small blind' and must bet an agreed amount whether they like their cards or not, the person next to them is the 'big blind' and must bet more (usually double). The play then starts with the person after the big blind who must bet at least as much as the big blind, or quit the game. They do that depending on how strong they think their first two cards are and assessing that is a key stage in learning how to play Texas Hold'em poker. Once that person has bet then the next person must match the highest bet on the table or raise it if they wish.
Once everyone has matched the highest bet on the table or quit then three cards are dealt face up in the middle of the table. The play then starts with the small blind who can either check, which means they don't want to bet yet, bet, or quit. The next person can only check if the small blind did, and if everyone does this the next card goes down face up with no bets being made, else once everyone has matched the highest bet or quit then one more card is dealt face up anyway. Then another round of betting starts like the last, one more card is dealt face up and another round of betting ensues to decide the victor.
There should be 5 cards face up in the middle of the table now and the winner is the person with the best 5 cards out of the ones in the middle and the ones In your hand. A big mistake that people make when learning how to play Texas Hold'em poker is that they forget they can use any or all of the cards in the middle. Once the betting has finished then the person to the left of the dealer shows his hand first and so on. This will show who the winner is and they get all the money in the betting pot!
Again, that is a simplified version of the game, but that is essentially all there is to it. Now if you want to learn how to play Texas Hold'em poker then you need to know the value of the cards you can have, I advise finding a detailed sheet on the internet and printing it off, but here is a basic rundown in order from lowest to highest is: high card, one pair, two pair, three of one card, 5 cards in numerical order, five cards of the same suit, three of one card and two of another, four of one card, five cards in numerical order all of the same suit.
Here are some tips to help you as you learn how to play Texas Hold'em, if you have a pair in your hand to start, or high cards like ace and king, then make sure you raise before the first cards come out. This means less people will stay in so there are less people to hit a good hand on the next three cards. Also, if you have an Ace then do not 'chase the Ace' where you continue betting when you have nothing just because you hope another Ace will come out!
